| Dear Reader:
When I started writing A TIME TO KILL thirty-two years ago, I had no fantasies of producing a New York Times Bestseller. I simply believed I had a good story to tell. As it turns out, I could barely give the book away, and eventually resorted to selling most of the 5,000-copy print run out of the back of my car. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then, and I am pleased to report that my latest novel, THE WHISTLER, is a #1 New York Times Bestseller! What’s more, it’s also a #1 Indie Bestseller, which means that a lot of local bookstores took a chance, ordered up a bunch of copies of the book, and thankfully sold a bunch, too. There are two constituents that deserve my thanks for this happy situation. First: you, my readers. You’ve stuck with me over the years. I’ve thrown you a few curve balls, that’s for certain, straying from legal thrillers to write comic fiction, sports novels, nonfiction, and even short fiction. Undaunted, you’ve returned again and again to read the stories I have to offer. For that, I am grateful beyond my abilities to fully express. Second: book retailers in all their forms, shapes and sizes. Though they may not all look alike, they share one thing in common—every one of them is an unrepentant book lover. They run businesses, for sure, but the fact that they chose the business of books makes them exceptional—and perhaps a little crazy! So, while I am delighted and honored to see THE WHISTLER at #1, I am most grateful to my readers and to booksellers across the country who inspire me to keep telling good stories. Warmest regards, |

Remember,
I’ve caved in and given myself over to one selfish post on this year’s Presidential election. If I could sum it up for you in one easy word, I would. But the current climate of Chia Pet Politics has me dreaming of days when the sensational headlines of another boring news cycle centered around which Kardashian mayhem riveted a nation to the TV with their latest antics. I would even settle for a late-night infomercial about which thigh cream will convert my gams into Starsky and Hutch Daisy Dukes next summer. Gone are the days Continue reading “Trending Tuesday Chia Pet Politics”

I’ve read Maas, Engber, Sobieck, Donovan, Bell, Card, and countless other writing gurus. But, after I read Structure Your Novel by K.M. Weiland, I snatched up every instructional writing book this author has published. Creating Character Arcs is one more gem in my resource library of books on craft. This book makes little things like
It’s that time of year again – National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo. Time to air blow off the keys of your laptop, spin character arcs, plan the caffeine-intake calendar, and stock up on NoDoze. What crazy person would attempt to write 50,000 words in a month? Apparently, me and half a billion other writers who have steel running through their veins and scarecrow stuffing for brains. But unlike the Tin Man, we have heart. Lots of heart! In 2012, eleven days after my only daughter’s 20th birthday, she was in a head-on collision car accident that changed the lives of everyone around her. Family and friends rushed to the trauma unit awaiting the doctor’s prognosis of her fragile state. The news couldn’t have been worse. My daughter was Continue reading “A Story of Brain Injury Q&A with Victoria Griffin, Creator of Flooded: A Creative Anthology of Brain Injuries”
