Manic Monday – Ready for NaNoWriMo (Not!)

It’s that time of year again – National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo. Time to air blow off the keys of your laptop, spin character arcs, plan the caffeine-intake calendar, and stock up on NoDoze. What crazy person would attempt to write 50,000 words in a month? Apparently, me and half a billion other writers who have steel running through their veins and scarecrow stuffing for brains. But unlike the Tin Man, we have heart. Lots of heart!  kickstarter-button_1_orig

In 2012, eleven days after my only daughter’s 20th birthday, she was in a head-on collision car accident that changed the lives of everyone around her. Family and friends rushed to the trauma unit awaiting the doctor’s prognosis of her fragile state. The news couldn’t have been worse. My daughter was Continue reading “A Story of Brain Injury Q&A with Victoria Griffin, Creator of Flooded: A Creative Anthology of Brain Injuries”

FREELANCE FRIDAY MEANETH NOT WHAT YE THINK

When I think of Freelance, my mind jams into high gear and goes right to visions of the Pulitzer Prize. Hoards of intellectual fans exalting their favorite journalist. I didn’t realize it, but I’ve lived with Freelancers in one form or another my entire adult life. Imagine my shock and astonishment when I learned what Freelance really means. Pulitzer be damned! I’m the real thing. Continue reading “FREELANCE FRIDAY MEANETH NOT WHAT YE THINK”

THIRSTY THURSDAY A POTATO BY ANY OTHER NAME TASTES LIKE VODKA

My favorite sitcom, Will & Grace, was responsible for one of the best drinking one-liners ever. “You say tomato, I say toe-mah-toe. You say potato, I say Vodka.” Today’s Thirsty Thursday lesson, children, will leave you running for the weekend and the nearest liquor store. If you dream of Ferris wheels and vodka filtered through cotton candy, that’s fair enough. But if you prefer your tater-booze filtered through diamonds, Dan Aykrod is the only guy on the planet who can fulfill that dream. Now that’s funny! WORKOUT WEDNESDAY 15 DAILY EXERCISE SUBSTITUTES

Does anyone else find it inhumanly maddening to wake up an hour early simply to jar your body into the metabolism management race? In the Adding Insult to Injury category, you arrive home from a long day of working for the man to find your stair master mocking you.  That internal voice screams four letter words at you: lazy, poky, slug. I don’t have to listen to that drivel, so my brain’s justification committee has taken over. I researched 15 common daily activities and will admit my surprise at how many calories are expended just living the life of Sherrie.
